The weather report is saying that snow is coming. My kids are excited. I have a different reaction when I think of snow. I mean, I grew up on Portland. It rarely snowed. I usually had to drive to snow and then we got to drive away from snow in the evening and go home. So, my reaction to snow is a bit less enthusiastic. Some of you may be planning on staying home if it snows.
When my wife was newly married (to me) and we moved her from Michigan (lots of snow every year) to Portland she used to laugh at Portland people who were afraid of two inches of snow. That’s nothing compared to MI. But then she realized that they don’t have snow plowing equipment, the snow is usually wet and slippery, there are a lot of hills to collect bad driving conditions and there are plenty of people who don’t know how to drive! She then understood.
My kids wanted me to move my car to the bottom of our hill/driveway, so that if it snows, I wouldn’t drive on their only sledding hill and ruin it…. Hmmmm….
God looks at snow differently.
Isaiah 1:18 (ESV) “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.
There really is something beautiful about snow covering everything. It covers the brown of the leafless trees. It covers the mud in our yards. It covers the garbage on the street. God says, our sins are like all those filthy, dirty things. His righteousness covers us like snow covers garbage. The difference between the two though, is that once covered by Jesus, the white of his righteousness never melts away and reveals the past again. Gone forever.
That’s Great News!
So, I say, “Let it snow! Let it Snow! Let it SNOW!” Praise the Lord!

Amen. This is a wonderful text to remember. We have too much snow to dig out so will be watching our pastor from home. May our Lord bless this Sabbath Day and our pastor.
