My wife read these quotes to me yesterday. I reread them today:
When Protestant churches shall unite with the secular power to sustain a false religion, for opposing which their ancestors endured the fiercest persecution, then will the papal sabbath be enforced by the combined authority of church and state. There will be a national apostasy, which will end only in national ruin.—Evangelism, 235 (1899).
When the state shall use its power to enforce the decrees and sustain the institutions of the church—then will Protestant America have formed an image to the papacy, and there will be a national apostasy which will end only in national ruin.—The S.D.A. Bible Commentary 7:976 (1910).
White, E. G. (1992). Last Day Events (p. 134). Pacific Press Publishing Association.
Today, like never before, people need the Lord. In much of the United States, it feels like we are in National Apostasy. However, our recent evangelism shows that there are still people open to the gospel. But if this is not that time, maybe it is about to show us what that time could be like.
It’s hard to imagine that national ruin isn’t happening with the extended lockdowns, shutdowns, and restrictions. How on earth, will businesses stay alive? How will we continue to move forward and people afford to buy food, clothing, and everything else.
Please don’t mishear me. I don’t think we are on national ruin yet. Not by a long shot. But I do know that some people are hurting financially right now. I do know that some people are hurting emotionally right now. The suicidal thoughts and attempts are up 25% over “normal” right now. This is a crazy time.
However, it’s going to get a lot worse. Truly it’s going to get way worse.
I want to encourage you to read your Bibles and pray every day. I want to encourage you to take a look at books like “The Great Controversy” or “Last Day Events”, both by Ellen White. They are certainly relevant to today and will help us grow in a way that will shape us for the future and what is to come.
Matthew 24:42–44 (NIV) 42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

Amen! Let’s not fail to focus on the many promises that God will not only protect us during these crazy times, but through the Spirit, we can help others to stay strong, keep faith, and build trust in God while we hold fast during times of trouble while we wait.
