Hey all, we want to clarify a few things – not just for this Sabbath – but for all Sabbaths. When it comes to being up front, we want you to understand that you are leading the congregation and that this is a very important task. We’ve asked you to lead, because we believe that God has gifted you with a lot of talents and energy. With those talents comes some responsibilities to lead your team. We want to be as professional as possible. We have a very nice building and fairly conservative congregation and we would like to reflect/lead that as we are up front.
As music leaders, we need you to pass this on to your team(s). If they come dressed inappropriately, they won’t be allowed to be up front. Harsh? Not trying to be harsh, but we do need you to take the lead on this with your team. Occasionally we get someone up front who forgets some of these things. We’ve had non-Adventist guests walk out because the dress of some was distracting
Attached you will find two general ideas – one for the man, one for the woman – on good dressing styles. (We don’t need to follow these exactly as they are written, but they are general ideas to trend towards) The short version is this:
- No torn or holes in the pants.
- No crop tops
- No hoodies
- Very limited or No jewelry while up front. What you do on your own time, is fine
- For men, an unbuttoned shirt is fine, but stick to only one button, not two or three
- For men, khakis are always acceptable. Clean and well fitting jeans are good.
- For women, remember that you are on a stage that is 4-5 steps higher than your audience. Dresses/Skirts should be about knee length in all spots, not just most of it.
- Also for women, no low necklines.
- Remember you are not there to show off, but rather to lead the congregation into worship of God.
- So smile
- Comb your hair
- Wash your face
- So smile
- Stay away from tennis shoes, sneakers, etc.
